Lincoln Younes insists he’s playing a ‘fictionalised’ version of nightclub owner John Ibrahim

Lincoln Younes is playing John Ibrahim in the highly anticipated biopic, Last King of The Cross.

But the actor, 30, insists he’s just playing a ‘fictionalised’ character and not the infamous nightclub owner himself. 

‘It’s not a biopic, I’m not playing him. There was an essence from his memoir that was the inspiration for the show,’ the former Home and Away star tells The Sydney Morning Herald.

‘John the person is enigmatic, charming, charismatic, ambitious and perfectionist,’ he explains. 

‘And John the character is mysterious, charismatic, intense, internal and the last bit would be, probably, volatile.’ 

The 10-part series will tell the story of brothers John and Sam Ibrahim, who are prominent figures in the Kings Cross nightclub district.

It is based on Last King of the Cross, the best-selling 2017 autobiography written by John Ibrahim. 

The series explores key events in John’s life, including surviving a near fatal stabbing and other attempts on his life.

Lincoln told Stellar magazine, he researched the nightclub owner and even visited his home to learn more about him before filming the series.

‘I’m not doing an imitation of him,’ he said of the biopic.

‘There’s an essence I wanted to capture, the loneliness of being an immigrant, of being successful, of paving a path that hadn’t been done before,’ he added. 

John has also praised Lincoln’s performance saying it was ‘difficult to watch’ some scenes and added he portrayed him ‘extremely well’.

Last King of the Cross has a budget of $50million and will be streamed exclusively worldwide on Paramount+.
