Viewers call out Australian Idol for hypocritical Instagram post urging fans to be respectful to the artists: ‘Happy to convince awful singers to audition and then use the footage to humiliate them’
Viewers have called out Australian idol for urging fans to be ‘respectful’ to contestants on the show.
The show’s official page shared a post to social media on Monday, informing viewers that ‘offensive or personal attacks will not be permitted’.
However many fans have criticised the post, claiming some of the judges harsh feedback to the contestants was worse than comments on the internet.

‘#AustralianIdol back to its old ways of humiliating young people. No I don’t watch it, but I read what happened. This garbage should be banned,’ one wrote sarcastically.
‘We’re happy to convince awful singers to audition and film them and then use the footage to humiliate them on national tv but seriously guys show some respect!!! #australianidol,’ another added.
‘Please respect the singers, but it’s ok for Kyle to insinuate that Ben’s a serial killer #AustralianIdol,’ a third said referring to Kyle’s comments about rock singer Ben Sheehy’s ‘weird, serial killer vibe’.

‘To be fair you’re clearly giving people a platform knowing they’re bad and using their auditions for comedic purposes soooooooooo ???’ another commented.
One person wrote: ‘Except the judges are reacting and comment some terrible stuff, and being straight up rude – it’s not even funny,’ yet another wrote.
During Monday night’s premiere of the Australian Idol reboot, Kyle, 51, bluntly told contestant Imogen Ledell, 19, her rendition of Sam Smith‘s ballad Lay Me Down did not impress him.
‘The vocal is not great at all. You must know that’s pretty woeful. Not good,’ he told her.

However, Imogen told Kyle his criticisms were just his ‘opinion’ and asked to hear what fellow judges Harry Connick Jr, Meghan Trainor and Amy Shark thought.
Unfortunately for her, Harry agreed with Kyle.Â
‘I’m going to be honest with you, singing is not for you. Making a living as a singer is not in your future,’ he said.Â
Imogen still refused to accept their feedback and insisted on being given a second chance to wow the judging panel, and even attempted singing in French.
This prompted the four judges to yell out ‘no’ in unison as a shattered Imogen left the stage, with Amy admitting the whole ordeal was ‘scary’.
