A TikTok star has revealed the main differences between life in Australia and the USA, sharing how the two countries have vastly different tastes and dating cultures.
Jesse Sunset, 32, real name Jesse Willesee, revealed he’s spent half of his life in each country as his father – respected TV journalist Terry Willesee – is Australian, while his mother Melissa is American.
Posting to his TikTok on Thursday, the star revealed his ‘unique perspective’ on life in the two countries in a viral video viewed over 64,000 times.

‘On the topic of dating, I feel like in America the guys really have to win the girls.
‘They’re really out there trying to get these girls, they really are competing. They want to snatch one up.
‘In Australia, it’s like the women are trying to snatch up the dudes and the dudes just get to act like whatever they want.
‘I don’t know what it is. It’s a sweet deal though Australia, keep it coming’.
Jesse, who uses the stage name Jesse Sunset, also revealed going the beach is very different in both countries.
‘In Australia, you take a towel, maybe. And that’s it’ he said.

‘In America, you’ve got towels, umbrellas, you’ve got a cooler full of drinks. You might have some food. You might have a tent that you put up’.
Palates are also vastly different Down Under and in the US, Jesse revealed, with him sharing how Americans love lots of flavours abhorred by Aussies.
‘Australians hate Dr. Pepper, Americans love it. Aussies think Dr. Pepper tastes like medicine.
‘Americans love the flavour of cinnamon, Australian seem to almost unanimously hate it.’

He went on: ‘The bacon in America is really crispy and crunchy. The bacon in Australia is sort of like floppy ham.’
He also said shared that Americans will tolerate spitting, which is reviled by Aussies.
‘Americans will spit a bit. And it’s not like a big deal. But in Australia, like people don’t really split.
‘I remember when I went to school and American came back to Australia had a bit of a spitting habit.
‘I’ve been playing baseball or spitting out the sunflower seeds and all this stuff. People were horrified’.

American also tend to honk the horn of the car more, Jesse says, whereas Australians will ‘almost never’ do it.
The influencer also shared that Aussies have a meaner sense of humour, with more people from the US getting offended by jokes Australians tell.
‘A sense of humour is such a big part of how we communicate and Australians make a lot of mean jokes, but they’re affectionate and because you know that it’s funny, but to Americans, they don’t know that you’re joking.
‘They think you’re just being mean.’
Jesse went on to explain that ‘talking to people in public’ is much more common stateside and that its ‘not something Aussies do much’ whereas ‘Americans will start up a conversation with the person next to him in line and talk and talk and talk’.
Finally he added that Australians can wear ‘no shoes’ everywhere they go, which is a far cry from his experiences in the US.
‘In America. If you’re walking around with no shoes, often people will look at you like something’s wrong’.
