Chester Bennington’s vocals are featured on song Linkin Park is set to release for the first time … following singer’s tragic 2017 suicide
Linkin Park is set to release Lost, a previously-unheard track that features the vocals of late singer Chester Bennington, who tragically died in a suicide at 41 on July 20, 2017.
The band on Monday took to social media to promote the Friday release of the single in an 18-second clip of a person in a gas mask spray painting the lens of the camera.
The words ‘New Linkin Park Music’ flashed on the screen at the conclusion of the clip.
The release of the unearthed song comes in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the group’s 2003 record Meteora, which featured singles such as Numb, Somewhere I Belong, Faint and Breaking the Habit.
Linkin Park has remained inactive since an October 2017 tribute concert called Linkin Park and Friends: Celebrate Life in Honor of Chester Bennington, that drew more than 17,000 people to the Hollywood Bowl.
The latest: Linkin Park is set to release Lost, a previously-unheard track that features the vocals of late singer Chester Bennington, who tragically died in a suicide at 41 on July 20, 2017. The late singer was pictured five months before his death, in NYC on February 21, 2017
Linkin Park co-founder Mike Shinoda last year said that he remained in contact with his bandmates.
‘The only Linkin Park news I have for you is that… yeah, we talk every few weeks – I talk to the guys, or some of the guys,’ Shinoda, 45, said in an April 2022 stream on Twitch that was featured on a fan page for the band. ‘And there’s no tours, there’s no music, there’s no albums in the pipeline. Okay, so let me just tell you that. So just keep in your minds that that is not happening.
‘I’m just gonna say that much for now. I say that because anytime the band says anything or does anything, everyone tries to start up the hype train, and we’re like, “No, no, no, no. Don’t start up the hype train.” You’re gonna disappoint yourself. Don’t do that.’
Shinoda and the band paid tribute to Bennington when they won the favorite alternative rock artist award at the American Music Awards in November of 2017, in the months following the lead singer’s passing.
He said that fellow nominees such as Imagine Dragons and Twenty One Pilots ‘said really wonderful things about Chester and they were similar to the things that our fans said all around the world about him.’
Shinoda continued, ‘We want to dedicate this award to him, to his memory, to his talent, to his sense of humor, to his joy. Remember, you guys – all of you, tonight – whether you’re a fan or an artist, I want you guys to take a moment to appreciate what you’ve got and make Chester proud.’
Linkin Park achieved huge commercial and critical success beginning in the early 2000s with hits such as One Step Closer, In the End and Crawling, the latter of which earned the band a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2002.
The band would go on to capture another Grammy in 2006 for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for Numb/Encore, a collaboration with Jay-Z.
