Samsung 860 EVO 2TB internal solid-state drive is the latest edition to the best-selling SSD SATA series in the world. This device is specifically made to boost the output performance of mainstream laptops and desktop computers. It is a reliable and fast storage device, thanks to its innovative V-NAND technology. The Evo is a faultless follow-up that is focused on providing greater endurance and faster speeds while retaining its low prices. After thoroughly testing both the M.2 SATA and 2.5-inch versions of the 2TB SSD, we can surely say that it is one of the best solid-state drives on the market right now.

It uses 6Gbits/s SATA 3 interface and stacked V-NAND memory, providing sequential writing speeds of up to 550MB/se. Though the company has focused mainly on endurance, the latest Samsung 860 EVO 2TB can withstand 1200 terabytes written (TBW), double of its Evo 850 equivalent. So, whether you are planning to make a new PC or switching solely from mechanical storage, Samsung 860 Evo is a worthy device. Or we can say that it is the best SATA SSDs one can have these days as it is meant to be both reasonable and offer a huge amount of storage capacity.

Performance

In our testing, 860 Evo did not hit its max-rated speeds, possibly due to driver issues, but we hope it will be fixed in the near future. Besides that, nothing seems to be affecting the performance of this SSD. Our testing exhibited minor but noticeable enhancements in the performance of 860 Evo 2TB over its predecessor. Specifically, there is a 5-20 MB/sec enhancement in both sequential write and read speeds. Also, the 2.5” variant of the 860 Evo achieved higher random write and read speeds 60-70 MB/sec faster.

Still, the 860 Pro from is the king of SATA hard drives with a quicker sequential write and read speed, with 10-20 MB/sec quicker random write and read speeds which ultimately leads to quicker load times, general file transfers, and booting sequences, via the difference which is impossible to differentiate.

Features

  • The Evo 860 series is powered by V-NAND, 64-layer technology. Also, the drive uses a SATA MJX controller with 2 Gigabytes of LPDDR4 DRAM for increased power efficiency and speed
  • Even under heavy workloads, its speed is consistent. The drive allows multitasking for quicker transfer of files. This 860 EVO 2TB delivers sequential write speeds of up to 520 MB/sec and sequential read speeds up to 550 MB/sec along with TurboWrite Intelligent technology. The buffer size is raised from 12 Gigabytes to 78 Gigabytes.
  • The advanced ECC algorithm and the latest MJX controller produce higher speeds, and the enhanced queued trim increases Linux compatibility.
  • The Samsung Evo’s magician software will assist you in keeping an eye on your drive. Some user-friendly tools assist you in keeping your drive updated, monitoring the drive’s speed and health, and even enhancing performance.
  • Quicker than the 850 EVO, this one is powered by the modern V-NAND tech and firmware enhancement. It can have a capacity of up to 4 Terabytes, with a reliability of 2400 TBW
  • You get notifications when the latest firmware is gets released and simply install updates for improved compatibility, stability, and performance.
  • The 860 2TB EVO features 256-bit AES hardware-based encryption, keeping performance high when compared with software-based encryption engines.
