Matty ‘J’ Johnson and Laura Byrne throw shade on The Bachelors for dropping four episodes a week amid the show’s dismal ratings

Former Bachelor stars Laura Byrne and Matty ‘J’ Johnson have thrown shade on the latest season of the series for screening double its usual amount of episodes a week.

Laura, 36, told her husband Matty, 35, she was shocked to discover Channel 10 was now airing four episodes a week of the series, renamed The Bachelors.

‘This week we thought we were unpacking three episodes. But now there is four and we were up until 3am watching,’ she joked to Matty on her Life Uncut podcast.

‘What are they doing?,’ a frustrated Matty asked.

Laura said the increased episode count meant they wouldn’t have time to recap the show on her podcast in detail, and would instead give an abridged version.

‘Jesus Christ, nobody can unpack that much Bachelor and nobody can watch that much Bachelor,’ Laura quipped.

She added at this rate the show would be finished in two weeks time and Channel Ten would be done with it.

It comes after the series premiered on January 9 to disastrous ratings.

This led to speculation Channel 10 was trying to screen the season quickly so it could focus on other programs.

The Bachelors launched to just 309,000 metro viewers, 18,000 fewer than low-rating new-look The Project which was broadcast immediately beforehand.

The prime time show once commanded about a million viewers a night in its 2018 heyday, when the NRL’s ‘Honey Badger’ Nick Cummins drew in 940,000 fans in the capital cities alone.

But the franchise and Ten have been in rapid decline ever since. Last year’s premiere was branded a disaster when it only attracted 482,000 metro viewers.

But the recent figure of 309,000 could prove terminal, as they slumped even more on the second night, down to just 273,000.
