Love Island viewers savage show’s ‘inaccurate’ ’90s party

‘These lot are too young!’ Love Island viewers savage show’s ‘inaccurate’ ’90s party and accuse Shaq of pulling out dance moves ‘from the ’70s’ as PVC clad cast let their hair down

The Running Man, The Macarena… even the Godforsaken Hammer Time.

Indeed, those of us with long enough memories can still remember the ill-advised dance moves that populated dance-floors throughout the 1990s.

But they appeared to be lost on the current cast of Love Island as they let their heavily sprayed hair down at a ’90s themed party on Wednesday evening – a fact not missed by viewers of the ITV2 show.

Restricted to weeks within the grounds of its Cape Town villa, the Islanders were  thrilled to discover a soiree had been arranged by producers.

However bemused fans were quick to point out that the group were too young to appreciate the ’90s, while most hadn’t even been born before the turn of the millenium.

To confuse matters further, hapless airport worker Shaq Muhammad appeared to miss the memo by adopting dance moves better suited to the 1970s.

Commenting on Twitter, one confused viewer wrote: ‘Did they say a 90s party?? Were they even born in the 90s and Shaq was doing dance moves from the 70s. Boy bye.’

While a second added: ‘These lot are too young man, they said 90s party so he starts doing 70s dance moves.’

Evidently in agreement, a third joked: ‘SHAQ. No idea how peeps danced in the 90s, pulling out the 70s night fever moves.’

Equally unimpressed, a fourth carped: ‘He talking about a 90s party but doing 70s dance moves…’

The ’90s outfits – predominantly PVC outfits, skinny jeans and bucket hats – proved to be equally confusing, and those old enough to remember the decade were quick to point out some very obvious inaccuracies.

‘These outfits are giving me PLT clearance sale than 90s vibes,’ wrote one, while a second moaned: ‘Us 90s babies actually watching these non-90s inspired outfit choices.’

Elsewhere a third raged: ‘The girls outfits aren’t giving 90s at all 🙁 i love themed parties it pains me when people don’t stick to the theme.’

Love Island continues on Thursday January 26th at 9:00pm on ITV2.
