Jesinta Franklin calls out influencers using Instagram’s new subscription service for profit – as she donates the money from her paid tier to charity

Jesinta Franklin has called out influencers who are using Instagram’s new subscription service to make money on top of their income from sponsored posts.

The wife of AFL champion Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin said public figures already earn ‘enough money’ from advertising products without adding a paid tier for their subscribers.

Jesinta does actually offer Instagram subscriptions for $12 per year; however, she has pledged to donate 100 per cent of the profits to charity.

‘I think it’s important in the current climate with inflation and cost of living, that if I can’t just charge a baseline of 99 cents [per month], if it starts to get over a dollar or two dollars, I don’t think that’s fair,’ Jesinta said on Monday.

The former Miss Universe Australia went on to call out other celebrities for their monthly fees, saying they already make enough cash thanks to Instagram.

‘A hundred per cent of all [my] profits will be donated to charities,’ she added.

‘I think influencers and celebrities and public figures make enough money from Instagram,’ she added.

Depending on their number of followers, celebrities can earn big bucks from adding a paid subscription tier to their account.

Bec Judd, who has 770,000 followers, charges $7.49 a month for subscribers, meaning she could theoretically earn millions a year.

Turning her attention to her channel, Jesinta said she planned to make more content about mum life, workouts, clothes fittings and makeup.

‘I’ll be posting more things but in a more intimate way. Sometimes Instagram doesn’t always feel 100 per cent like a safe space for me to share things on,’ she explained.

‘I haven’t done as much as I could do. When I saw the subscribe function… it creates a group of people who wants to see that authentic community.’

‘Not everyone wants to see my mum hacks,’ she added.

She concluded by saying she wanted to create a more ‘intimate’ environment for her biggest fans, describing it as a ‘fun group’.
