Industry’s Marisa Abela transforms into Amy Winehouse to film Blake Fielder-Civil’s arrest

Industry star Marisa Abela filmed a devastating scene from the upcoming Amy Winehouse biopic Back To Black on Friday.

The actress was seen sobbing hysterically as she filmed the moment her boyfriend Blake Fielder-Civil was arrested by police, after transforming into the singer, who died of alcohol poisoning in 2011 at the age of 27.

Jack O’Connell, who has taken on the role of Amy’s husband Blake, cut a pensive figure as he was led away by the police in handcuffs for the film.

In the scenes, Marisa sported Amy’s signature black beehive with an enormous head  bow as she collapsed to the floor in tears during Blake’s arrest.

Showing Amy’s range of tattoos, she sported a tight grey vest and a leopard print skirt as she collapsed onto the ground.

Meanwhile Jack sported a blue gingham shirt and a black cardigan as he was led away by police in handcuffs.

The Winehouse estate have given the film their ‘full support’, with a source close to them telling MailOnline: ‘The film will focus on Amy and her incredible talent.

‘There are highs and lows in Amy’s story that the film won’t shy away from.

‘But what we are left with is Amy’s amazing songs and music, that’s what ultimately the film will show and what will always be remembered.’

Blake was arrested in 2007 over an alleged attempt to halt his forthcoming trial on GBH charges by bribing his accuser, barman James King.

In 2008, Blake was sentenced to 27 months in prison after admitting grievous bodily harm and perverting the course of justice in the £200,000 trial-fixing plot.

Judge David Radford told Fielder-Civil at the time: ‘You behaved in a gratuitous, cowardly and disgraceful way.’

He said King’s cheekbone had been broken in the attack, requiring ‘the surgical reconstruction of his face’ with a metal plate behind his cheek and eye.

Judge Radford said Fielder-Civil ‘had access to his wife’s money’ to fund the bribe plot, which would have seen King disappear to Spain.

‘Let it be clear that had the scheme to pay off Mr King been successful, a violent crime would have been deemed acceptable by all involved and justice would not have been served,’ he said.

Because he has already spent nine months in custody and had to only serve half his sentence, he was due for release before the end of the year, and he was eventually released in February 2009.

In court Blake’s barrister, Jeremy Dein QC, told the court of his client’s struggle to beat his drug addiction – and help Amy beat hers.

‘Despite the war of words around them, Mr Fielder-Civil and Miss Winehouse are very much committed to each other. It is their ambition to divorce themselves from hard drugs – not to separate themselves from each other.’

The court heard that Fielder-Civil’s part in the attack in June 2006 had lasted ’25 seconds’ and had involved him kicking King, who had fallen out with a friend of his, Michael Brown.

The victim was later approached by two ‘middle men’, Anthony Kelly and James Kennedy, who discussed a deal to keep Fielder-Civil and Brown out of prison.

The plot was exposed when Kelly and Kennedy contacted the Daily Mirror newspaper in an attempt to tell their story, and staff informed the police.

Fielder-Civil’s co-defendant, Michael Brown was jailed on the same two charges for 33 months.

Kelly, 26, of Chalk Farm, North London, was sentenced to 20 months and Kennedy, 20, of Hatfield, Hertfordshire, was given a suspended sentence and community service, both for perverting the course of justice.

Marisa is embodied the late singer for the upcoming biopic, which is being directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and has been called Back To Black after Amy’s 2006 album, which included her hit single Rehab.

Marisa and Eddie were previously pictured filming scenes outside Ronnie Scott’s famous jazz club in Soho, where the singer performed early in her career.

Amy said in a 2006 interview with the Camden New Journal that her grandmother once dated musician Ronnie Scott, and explained that ‘after he died we went down there, did a gig’.

She said: ‘I was singing a tune – and I don’t care if people are talking, in fact I like it if people are talking ’cause it gives me a chance to go into one with the band, and my dad was in the audience.

‘He turned around to whoever was in the audience and said: ‘Will you shut the f*** up’ and this man goes ‘sorry’ and it was Mick Jagger. And my Dad’s like: ‘It was only Mick Jagger!”

Elsewhere, Marisa recently penned a heartfelt tribute to Amy when a first look of herself in-character as the musician was revealed.

She wrote on Instagram: ‘And for London. This is for London. Cause Camden Town ain’t burnin down’. I love you, Amy.’

Eddie, who is playing Mitch, is best known for his role in Happy-Go-Lucky and more recently for 2022 drama The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe.

Back To Black is expected to follow Winehouse’s life as a talented jazz singer in North London to her rise as a global superstar with her second album, 2006’s Back to Black.

She became one of just five women at the time to win five Grammys in one night, including Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

The singer had struggles with alcohol and drug abuse throughout her career, passing away in 2011 at just 27 years of age from alcohol poisoning.

A24’s 2015 documentary Amy won the Oscar for Best Documentary, though this will be the first biopic to tackle her life, though other versions were in the works.

It was announced in 2015 that Noomi Rapace has signed on to star in a Winehouse biopic from Lotus Entertainment.

Kristen Sheridan, the daughter of In America director Jim Sheridan, was set to both direct and write the screenplay, though it never moved forward.

It was then confirmed in October 2018 that Amy’s family had signed a deal with Monumental Pictures for a biopic.

Kinky Boots writer Geoff Deane was brought on to write the script, with Alison Owen and Debra Hayward producing

Four years later, the project has moved to StudioCanal with Taylor-Johnson, though both Alison and Debra are remaining as producers, along with Tracey Seaward.

Taylor-Johnson started her career as a music video director including Elton John’s I want Love and The Weeknd’s Earned It.

She made her feature film debut with 2015’s Fifty Shades of Grey, and went on to direct A Million Little Pieces and two episodes of Amazon’s Solos.
