Harrison Ford portrays mentor figure to Jason Segel in trailer for upcoming comedy series Shrinking


Harrison Ford played a mentor figure to a grieving therapist portrayed by Jason Segel in a trailer for the upcoming Apple TV+ comedy series Shrinking.

The 80-year-old actor plays Dr. Paul Rhodes opposite Jason, 43, who portrays therapist Jimmy Laird in the new series produced by Warner Bros. Television.

‘Are you just gonna burn down your career and take me with you?,’ Paul asked at the beginning of the recently released trailer.

‘Coin flip?,’ Jimmy responded.

‘Get out of here,’ Paul told him.

Jimmy started to leave before he turned around and said, ‘Wait, this is my office.

‘It took you longer than it should’ve,’ Paul remarked.

The trailer showed an outdoor sign for the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Center followed by clips of Jimmy falling asleep during therapy sessions with clients.

‘Right, how does that make you feel?,’ he asked a client after dozing off.

Jimmy was then shown in the middle of the night by his pool admitting to his complaining neighbor that he was taking painkillers.

Paul surprised Jimmy at his office and admitted that he was worried about him.

‘I’ve been grieving,’ Jimmy admitted.

‘You’ve been numbing,’ Paul told him.

Jimmy listened as a patient told him how her partner ‘just kept going on and on about how dumb I am, but he loves me.’

He slammed down his noted and blurted out, ‘Your husband is emotionally abusive. He’s not working on it. He doesn’t intend to. Just leave him.’

‘Okay,’ his client responded.

Jimmy then declared that he could help people more if he got his ‘hands a little bit dirtier.’

‘We know what they should do. Don’t you ever want to just shake them?,’ Jimmy said.

Paul in the trailer also spoke with Jimmy’s teenage daughter Alice [Lukita Maxwell].

‘Nobody gets through this life unscathed. You’re faced with a choice. Are you going to let your grief drown you? Or are you going to come face it, come through the other side?,’ he asked her.

A description for the film read: ‘Shrinking follows a grieving therapist (played by Segel) who starts to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge, tumultuous changes to people’s lives…including his own.

Jason also is a co-creator and executive producer of the series along with Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein.

Bill is a co-creator of Ted Lasso and Brett is a writer on Ted Lasso and also stars in it as footballer Roy Kent.

Shrinking also stars Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Michael Urie and Luke Tennie.

Bill has an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television and Shrinking will be his third project with Apple following Ted Lasso and the upcoming drama series Bad Monkey.

Shrinking will premiere with its first two episodes on January 27 on the Apple TV+ streaming service.
