She also received a message from Gogglebox alum Izzi Warner, who wrote: ‘Sending lots of love and strength your way [heart].’

Suggesting that things had taken a bad turn, Kate tweeted earlier in the day: ‘Please pray for M #LordInYourMercy.’

Kate previously revealed that her mother had been in hospital for several weeks after previously receiving some bad news regarding her health.

Last week, Kate shared a post which read: ‘She’s due home tomorrow. It’s been tricky emotionally as well as physically.

‘She has been cared for by some of the best humans, huge thanks to all the staff at Sheffield Hospital.’

Kate first told her followers that her mother wasn’t well on Twitter, explaining on a thread: ‘Yesterday I did a funeral a lady, aged 98, she died in her sleep, in her own bed, she wasn’t particularly ill, just old, a golden death if you like.

‘Me and the crem staff agreed we’d all take that when our time comes.

‘Because of the virus her family weren’t able to be there, but technology means they were able to watch the service at home via web cam. But they sent hymns and music and some beautiful words. Her neighbours came. She was loved and remembered.

‘It was, in many ways, a good death and a nice funeral. No tragedy, no chaos or suffering, she wasn’t too young and she had a good and full life. Not every funeral I do is like this, especially just now.’

But Kate went on: ‘No funerals are ‘easy’ but some are definitely tougher than others. When I get a tough funeral (suicide, a child, someone young, or a violent death) I prepare myself differently from other funerals. I make sure my diary is clear afterwards too.

‘But this funeral didn’t need me to do that. So I had neglected to properly take in that the deceased shared the same name as my Mum. My Mum who just recently had some scary health news and is facing some scary treatment.’

‘So when I got to the ‘We commend Margaret, Lord to your care.’ It unexpectedly got me, my throat caught a little and I ever so slightly wobbled.

‘This isn’t a problem, of course, and I’m fine. No one minds a wobble. Only human eh? This is what it’s like sometimes this ministry. I don’t ever stop being me or being a daughter or a wife or a mum or anything that makes Kate, Kate.’

She went on: ‘Incidentally every time I phone my Mum and she asks what I’ve done today and I say ‘A funeral’ she says ‘Oh Love! I’m so sorry are you ok?’ And I say, ‘Mum, it’s been 12 years now, you get that this is my job?’ God love her.’

Kate shot to stardom thanks to her Gogglebox stint between 2014 and 2016 alongside her husband Graham, who she has been with since she was 18.

She was approached to feature on the show after bosses spotted a video of her in a wedding flashmob, which garnered over seven millions views.

Kate previously stressed she wants people to know it’s possible to be religious and have faith while having fun at the same time, which is partly why she signed up to appear on Gogglebox.

‘My media work is part of my ministry, as I want to keep the door open for people,’ Kate explained.

‘That motivated me to say yes to Gogglebox but I’m a desperate show-off too. People might look at me on TV and think it’s not proper behaviour for a vicar but what matters to me is what I think and what my gaffer thinks.

‘One of my favourite Bible passages is where Jesus says: ‘I’ve come that they might have life and have it in all its fullness.’ I’m interested in that fullness of life.’

Kate and husband Graham left the Channel 4 show in 2016 and she has since moved into radio, presenting Good Morning Sunday on BBC Radio 2.

She has also attended online religious services around the world, from New York to the Vatican, and added that as a self-supporting minister, she doesn’t have a regular Sunday service but covers for other vicars and helps with weddings of funerals.

Since her rise to fame she has put her culinary skills under the microscope on Celebrity MasterChef. She has also presented the BBC’s Songs of Praise.
