Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier comes out Nov. 17, has an epic intro

Cloud Strife isn’t the star of Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, but he appears in the mobile game’s introduction sequence.

Square Enix

Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier will bring multiplayer battle royale action to iOS and Android devices on Wednesday, Nov. 17, developer Square Enix said Friday. It also revealed the spinoff’s awesome introduction sequence, which runs through events that happened in the decades prior to Final Fantasy VII‘s story.

You can pre-register for the mobile game, which will be free-to-play with in-app purchases.

It puts you in the role of a customizable member of megacorporation Shinra’s elite Soldier unit in matches of up to 75 players. You can choose your own combat style, defeat monsters to earn experience points and gil, call iconic summons like Ifrit to fight for you, and ride across the battlefield on a chocobo.

The spinoff is unlikely to include any grand revelations related to Final Fantasy VII Remake’s wild ending (or that of the Yuffie-centric downloadable content), but might tide fans over until the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake’s sequel.
