Diana ‘Bubbles’ Fisher dies at the age of 91 as tributes pour in for Beauty and the Beast star

Beloved TV star Diana ‘Bubbles’ Fisher has died at the age of 91 after a two-year battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Fisher was admitted to St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Sydney on Monday before she died on Thursday evening.

The 91-year-old, who appeared on the hit Australian TV show ‘Beauty and the Beast’, was remembered as a vibrant personality up until her last breath.

‘She was at our home for Christmas and was rousing on my husband for not giving her enough baked potatoes,’ long-time friend Sally Evans said.

‘She was still full of life, just as people would remember her.’ 

Tributes have poured in for the beloved TV personality with friend and journalist Craig Bennett describing her as ‘witty’ and generous’. 

‘Despite several years of bad health, including a struggle with cancer, Bubbles was always upbeat and brimming with fabulous gossip and her signature enthusiasm,’ he said.

‘We had a long phone chat at Chrissie, swapped no end of delicious stories. Diana was a darling. 

‘Kind, generous, witty, the best marmalade maker. And she insisted hot crumpets be spread thickly with cold butter!’

Former gossip columnist Ros Reins added: ‘Bubbles was the essential influencer who once tried to fortify a group of use with one of her omelettes. 

‘Bubbles and I also played for the Bollinger Belles cricket team.’

Fisher had earned her nickname ‘Bubbles’ from her infectious spirit and warm personality.

She was born in London and married BBC producer Humphrey before moving to Australia when he posted to the country by the network in 1964. 

Fisher had a keen interest in the Royal Family and covered weddings, births and deaths across 53 countries.

‘I’ve had the great pleasure of meeting many royals,’ she told Woman’s Day last year.

‘The Queen is so charming – we met in 1971 on the Royal Yacht Britannia, and Prince Charles is someone genuinely interested. He never stops asking questions.’
