Christine Lampard recalls the moment her son began snacking on a pepper before she’d paid for it

‘I hadn’t even noticed!’ Christine Lampard recalls the hilarious moment her son Freddie began snacking on a pepper in the supermarket before she’d paid for it

Christine Lampard has revealed the hilarious moment her son Freddie began eating a pepper he’d picked up in the supermarket before she had a chance to pay for it.

During a debate over whether they would indulge in one of their purchases before they made it to the checkout, the presenter, 43, shared the amusing tale while admitting it is acceptable in ‘certain moments.’

Christine told the panel that she does not think it ‘looks right’ to see someone eating their food pre-purchase, but understands why parents may give into their crying children after they spot something on the shelf.

Christine explained that she was in a similar situation last week with her own son and had to tell the cashier what had happened at the checkout.

She said: ‘My little boy actually picked up a red pepper the other day and was munching through it and I had not even noticed it.

‘I had to explain to the lady at the end “I’m really sorry that’s happened I’ll pay for it.”

‘I understand there are certain moments but I wouldn’t do it myself.’

Christine is mother to daughter Patricia, four, and son  Freddie, 22 months, with her husband Frank, who she married in 2015.

The issue left her fellow panellists divided, with Brenda Edwards revealing that it is something she has done ‘a couple of times.’

The presenter shared that she did not feel guilty doing it as the first time she snacked while she shopped, she had hiccups and eating helped.

Brenda added that she does not think there is anything wrong with it, as long as you do not leave the building.

But Christine then revealed: ‘Snacking whilst you shop is technically against the law under Section 6 of the Theft Act 1968.’

She added: ‘One legal expert explains that buying a product at the till is what transfers the ownership from the product belonging to the shopkeeper to it belonging to you.

‘Only when the sale is complete do you have legal right to consume it.’

Brenda then quipped: ‘Yes, well, as far as I’m concerned, until I leave that building, I haven’t taken anything.’

Coleen cut in and said that once you have eaten something, you cannot give it back but Brenda said she does not intend on returning it.

Her co-panellist then joked: ‘The other way of looking at that, you’re saving on carrier bags aren’t you, you’ve eaten all the food before you…you’re saving the planet.’

The studio erupted into laughter as she made the remark to Brenda.

Brenda then joked that she would visit the homeware section and be sorted for a full meal, with a plate and fried chicken, not having to worry about washing up.

Kelle later shared that she does not snack while shopping and would prefer to wait until she was outside.

Loose Women airs weekdays from 12:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
