Ben Stiller set to play TRIPLETS in adaptation of 2018 documentary Three Identical Strangers… which followed incredible real-life story of brothers intentionally separated at birth for social experiment

Ben Stiller is gearing up to playing identical TRIPLETS in a new limited series adaptation of the 2018 documentary Three Identical Strangers.

Sony Pictures Television is behind the new show in which Stiller, 57, will play Bobby Shafran, David Kellman, and Eddy Galland, who were separated at birth and reunited as adults, Variety reported Monday.

The project marks one of his first major acting roles in several years, coming just days after a teaser for his new Pepsi Super Bowl ad with Steve Martin.

The triplets were separated at birth as part of a social experiment and were each adopted by different families.

Shafran first discovered he had siblings he never knew about in 1980 as a 19-year-old on a New York community college campus, when he was frequently greeted as another student, Eddy Galland.

They both met and realized they were both adopted and realized they were twin brothers.

Their story was widely reported when it reached David Kellman, who had a similar adoption story as they discovered the twins were actually identical triplets.

They became media darlings for a time, appearing frequently on shows like The Phil Donohue Show, and moved in together and opened a restaurant called Triplets Roumanian Steakhouse.

While the adoption agency initially claimed they were separated because of the difficulty finding a family to take on triplets, it was ultimately revealed they were intentionally separated and placed in different families – one blue-collar, one middle class and one affluent – as part of a study that was never fully revealed to the parents.

Stiller will play all three triplets as adults in the new series, which will be written by Amy Lippman (Party of Five).

Lippman will also serve as showrunner and executive producer, with Stiller executive producing through his Red Hour Films company.

Sidney Kimmel, John Penotti, Charlie Corwin and Marcy Ross of SK Global also executive produce along with Piers Vellacott, Dimitri Doganis, and Tim Wardle – who directed the documentary – of RAW and Emmeline Yang Hankins.

Mark O’Connor of SK Global, Dan Braun, and Josh Braun of Submarine would serve as co-executive producers.
